Privacy

Short version: we keep what we need to run Barterra, we do not sell it, and we never show your exact location. Last updated September 30, 2026.

What we keep

  • Your account: a username, a name neighbors see, and an email if you give one (only used to reset your password).
  • Your listings: the words and photos you post, and the city or town you type.
  • A rough location: if you tap "Use my location" or drop a pin, we keep that spot so we can show what is near you. Other people only ever see a fuzzy circle about a mile wide, never the real spot.
  • Your messages: what you and another person write to each other on Barterra.
  • Trades and thank-you notes: who you traded with and the notes you leave each other.
  • Reports and blocks: if you report or block someone, we keep that so we can act on it.
  • Alerts: if you turn alerts on, we keep the address your browser gives us so we can send you a ping. Turn alerts off and it is deleted.

What we do with it

  • Run the site: show listings, deliver messages, send alerts you asked for.
  • Keep people safe: photos are checked against a list of known illegal images before they show. A person on our team reads reports.
  • Count visits: we use Umami, a simple visit counter that does not track you across other sites and does not use ad cookies.

We do not sell your information. We do not show ads. We do not share your information with anyone except when the law makes us.

Who can see what

  • Everyone: your listings, the name neighbors see, your photo if you add one, your city, your trades done, and thank-you notes about you.
  • Only the two of you: messages.
  • Only our team: your email, your rough location, reports, and blocks.

Photos

We remove hidden data from photos (like the exact place a phone took them) before anyone sees them. We make small copies so pages load fast. Delete a listing and its photos are deleted too.

Cookies

Barterra uses a few small cookies: one to keep you signed in, one to protect forms from fakes, and, if you share your location, one that remembers it for an hour. That is all.

Deleting your account

Ask us on the Community page and we delete your account, listings, photos, and messages within 7 days. Thank-you notes you wrote for other people stay, with your name removed.

Kids

Barterra is for people 13 and older. If you are younger, ask a parent to trade for you.

Who we are

Barterra is made and run by WOPR Systems LLC. If this page changes, the date at the top changes too.
