Barterra

Safety tips

Most trades are simple and friendly. A few habits keep them that way.

Before you meet

  • Chat here first. Ask questions. A real person answers like a real person.
  • Look at their profile. Trades done and thank-you notes tell you a lot.
  • If something feels off, it is fine to say no thanks and stop talking.

Verified and Unverified

  • Verified - paid member means the person pays for a WOPR, YourSpace or LoveJoos account. We check it every day, and the badge goes away when a membership ends. It is not an ID check, but a paying member is much less likely to be a throwaway account or a bot.
  • Unverified means a free account. Most free accounts are real neighbors, but anyone can make one in a minute, so keep your guard up: chat here first, meet in public, and never send money, codes or gift cards.
  • The badge comes only from a paid account. Nobody on Barterra hands it out by hand, and people cannot set it on their own profile.

When you meet

  • Pick a public place: a library, a coffee shop, a grocery store lot, or a police station lobby.
  • Go in daylight if you can. Bring a friend, or tell someone where you are going and when you will be back.
  • Never share your home address. Barterra only ever shows a rough area, never an exact spot.
  • Check the item before you hand over yours. Test it if you can.

Keep it simple

  • No money changes hands on Barterra. If someone asks you to pay, wire money, or send gift cards, walk away and report them.
  • Do not click links to other sites to "finish the deal." Everything you need is here.
  • Keep your talk in Barterra messages until you have met. It keeps a record if anything goes wrong.

If something goes wrong

  • Every listing and every profile has a Report link. A person on our team reads each report.
  • You can Block anyone from their profile. They will not be able to message you.
  • If you are in danger, call 911 first.
